Soccer squad remains unbeaten
MIAMI, Fla. — The Western Kentucky soccer team remains unbeaten on the 2008 season with a 1-1 tie Sunday at Florida International. The match marks the second double-overtime match in as many days.
With the tie, WKU advances to 6-0-3 overall and
0-0-2 in league action. FIU moves to 0-8-1 (0-7-1).
FIU got on the scoreboard first in the second half when Katrina Rose dribbled into the penalty box and scored from six yards out just two minutes into the period.
WKU answered the Golden Panther goal with a score off a header by Megan Meinke. Meinke recorded her fifth score of the year off a cross from Rachel Friedman in the 80th minute.
Amanda Buechel led the Lady Toppers with four shots while Nikki Workman and Meinke each posted three attempts.
Libby Stout stopped three of the 14 FIU shot attempts and allowed a goal for the first time since Aug. 29 against Morehead State.
WKU will look to record its first conference victory against South Alabama at 6 p.m. Friday at the WKU Soccer Complex.
